Alex Clarke
PhD - Since April 2022
Previous: MChem - The University of Manchester
Current: PhD student - Sm-Catalysed Bioisostere Synthesis
Funding: EPSRC
Biography: I was born in Manchester before moving down to Dorset when I was 8. I missed the north so moved straight back up to do my undergraduate degree at the University of Manchester, and completed my masters project under the supervision of Prof Daniele Leonori. I joined the iCAT CDT in September 2021 and have now started my PhD project under the supervision of Dr Sam Butterworth and Prof David Procter. My project incorporates the use of samarium diiodide as a catalyst in the synthesis of bioisosteres for use in medicinal chemistry. Outside the lab, I enjoy playing football and squash, as well as being an avid Man City fan.
