Emily York
PhD - Since September 2026
Previous: MSci – University of Bristol
Current: PhD student
Funding: University of Manchester Bicentenary Scholarship
Prizes: Organic and Biological Sections Prize (for MSci presentation)
Biography: I obtained my MSci in Chemistry from the University of Bristol. During my second year, I joined the Clayden group for a summer internship investigating the deracemisation of C–N atropisomers. The following summer, I completed an internship with the Crump and Willis groups, investigating the biosynthetic pathway of bongkrekic acid. For my final-year project, I returned to the Clayden group, where I developed a novel stereoselective ring contraction to access hindered cyclopropanes. I joined the Procter group in 2026, where my PhD research focuses on samarium diiodide catalysis and photochemistry. Outside the lab, I am a competitive triathlete and enjoy training and racing in my spare time.
